Should I go for the TR33(27.5″/29″) or the TR36(29″)/TR38(27.5″)?

Why Should I Buy Direct from NOBL?

All direct purchases receive lifetime service support. If your wheelset requires servicing, simply ship it to one of our facilities and we will grease, true and retape the wheelset free of charge.

Should I go for Brass or Alloy Nipples?

Alloy nipples are a great way to save rotating weight on a wheelset. We use Sapim’s highest quality nipples made from 7075 alloy. In our experience the strength of these Alloy nipples is comparable to brass and we generally encourage our customers to go that route.

Brass nipples are slightly heavier, but are tried and true. In our experience, corrosion seems to be comparable between the two. We lubricate all of our spokes and nipples which ensures years of happy riding.

Which spokes should I go for?

Spoke selection comes down to a few things. Rider weight, ride style and lastly desired wheel characteristics.  Lighter, or thinner gauge spokes will stretch more than heavier or thicker gauge spokes.  Straight gauge spokes have very minimal stretch, while double butted spokes  are designed to have some stretch. With NOBL wheels, we only recommend  the use of double butted spokes. Use of straight gauge spokes will void warranty.

We offer three different spokes to accommodate your ride style. For riders under 190lbs  and anything from XC to Enduro riding, we recommend the Sapim D-Light spoke. Exceptionally strong and light, this spokes punches well above its category. With 2.0/1.65/2.0mm butting, it will build a very snappy light wheelset without riding too harsh.

For riders over 190lbs, or hard charging riders who require a strong and resilient spoke, the Sapim Race spoke is your ticket. Slightly heavier than the D Light, with a 2.0/1.8/2.0mm profile, the Sapim race is perfect for building a bombproof wheelset. The thicker profile makes it more impervious to nicks and scrapes that inevitably occur when pushing limits.

For the ultimate in spoke performance, the Sapim CX-Ray is your answer. Stronger than both the Race and the D-Light, the CX-Ray is also the lightest option. Its bladed profile adds an aerodynamic profile as well as saves weight. It can be used in virtually any application from XC to DH.  If you want the lightest, strongest possible wheel. The Sapim CX Ray has you covered.

Where do you ship and with who?

We ship internationally with UPS! In rare cases in Canada we will ship with Canada Post, usually for remote locations. US orders will be fulfilled out of our Minnesota warehouse, while Canadian orders out of our Abbotsford, BC headquarters. During the checkout process you will be able to select your shipping rate. For international orders, you may be responsible for import duties and taxes.

How long will it take to receive my wheels?

We keep a deep inventory of 32h rims, and the most common hub colours in stock at all times. With in stock items, turnaround is generally 2-3 days to build and ship.

With special order items (28h rims , uncommon colours or hub standards) there is an extra two weeks of lead time.

If you have an urgent order you can leave a message in the checkout notes or call ahead before ordering for an up to date inventory check.

What makes NOBL different from other brands?

  1. We like to think of ourselves as a niche product. Our rims are born and inspired by the rough, and unforgiving terrain of BC. There’s a saying that, “If you can ride BC, you can ride anywhere.” As a result, our rims are built a little burlier than most. Our goal is to create rims that can withstand torturous conditions and still run true.
  2. Our rims are proprietary and a direct result of our own research and development.  We design and own our own molds and technologies. We are frequently making revisions to the layup schedules and tweaking them as needed. As a result, our products are in a constant evolution cycle of iterative improvements. (Our TR33 is technically in it’s 7th generation!).  The carbon wheel market is very competitive, and many companies out there are simply rebranding carbon rims from trading companies. We take pride in being one of the few companies out there that is intrinsically involved in the design and development of the product from start to finish.

Which rim width is best for me?

This largely depends on the tire size you run. If the rim is too wide for the tire, the tire will square off and make for unpredictable cornering. If the rim is too narrow for the tire, the tire will have the tendency to fold under hard cornering, also making for unpredictable handling. As a general rule we recommend the following tires sizes for each rim:

TR28- 1.8″-2.3″
TR33- 2.1″-2.6″
TR36- 2.3″-2.8″
TR38- 2.3″-2.8″
TR45- 2.5″- 3.0″+

Do your wheelsets come tubeless ready?

All of our complete wheelsets come taped, valved and ready to go. All you need to do is throw your tire on with some sealant and you’re good to go!

Why should I go for carbon rims over alloy rims?

While the price jump from alloy to carbon rims may be a bit of a shock- rest assured the benefits are warranted. Carbon wheels are stronger and stiffer than an alloy rim gram for gram. They are an excellent way to ‘liven up’ your bike. The most noticeable changes in an alloy to carbon upgrade are ‘snappier’ acceleration, increased control, and lighter weight. Carbon rims are also more impact resistant than an alloy rim. Impacts that would often crumple an alloy rim, leave carbon rims unscathed.

Do you guys make your own rims?

All NOBL rims are proprietary and our own design. We wholly own and develop the molds and technologies. We are partnered with a factory in the ‘Carbon Capital’ Xiamen, China, that handles our manufacturing. This allows us to keep costs low, while harnessing the benefits of an ultra competitive manufacturing industry. We make frequent trips to the factory to test and refine manufacturing processes. Our rims are constantly going through iterative improvements to improve all attributes of the rim, from durability, the finish, the feel.  To put it in perspective, we are currently on the 7th generation of the 29″ TR33 rim. 🙂
